Buying a Puppet – Our Advice
Ventriloquism is more than just throwing your voice or talking with immovable lips. These skills are very much part of it but the true art of ventriloquism is the ability to bring inanimate objects to life. As a ventriloquist you will need a partner to perform with and these are usually referred to as ventriloquist puppets, hand puppets or sock puppets.
When you start to Learn Ventriloquism it is highly recommended that you practise with your puppet from the outset. This will increase your ability more rapidly. In addition to practising the art of talking without lip movement you should also spend time teaching your puppet to move realistically and learn to synchronise your puppets mouth and body movements. Your aim is to make your audience believe your puppet is a living creature.
At the outset you can get away with drawing a face on your hand or using sock puppets but I thoroughly recommend you invest in a decent puppet as soon as you can as you will build your character around this. Ventriloquist puppets can vary dramatically in cost depending on the level of puppet you require. As a beginner I would advise starting with hand puppets where you can control the mouth. As you progress your skills and ability you will probably wish to invest in a more professional ventriloquist puppet that has more advanced features such as a full body or moveable eyes and eye brows.

Toon Puppets
These ventriloquist puppets are part of our Classic Designs Collection of puppets originally designed and manufactured by Puppet Productions™ (1970 – 2009).
They are part of a series of puppets called Toons™ first created in 2006. This particular design is a reboot of the Quimper’s Corner series of hand puppets first introduced in 1976.

Monster Puppets
These full body Monster Puppets stand about 30 inches tall. They have big funny eyes, a cute nose, and a large easy moving mouth. The fur around the mouth can be trimmed if you want a more clean cut looking monster puppet or to show more of their mouth!
Insert your hand through the bottom of the puppet to operate the mouth. Included is one arm rod which can be clipped to either hand for movement.
Monkey Puppets
The baby silly monkey puppet is the glove size version of the very popular large silly monkey puppet. Same high quality craftsmanship as the larger version but now in a hand puppet size! The hand enters through bottom of puppet. The arm rod is not included.
The large silly monkey puppet is a real hit with audiences! He is slightly over 28″ in length. His fur is so life-like. Completely movable mouth. There is even extra detail screen printed on his cute monkey fingers! Insert your hand up through bottom of the puppet to operate the mouth. Included is one arm rod which can be clipped to either hand for arm movement.
The wrap around silly monkey puppet is slightly over 38″ in length. His extra long legs and arms allow you to “wrap” him around your waste and neck making it look like he is clinging on to you.
Velcro on his hands and feet hold them in place. His fur is so life-like. Completely movable mouth. There is even extra detail screen printed on his cute monkey fingers! The arms are about 20″ long and legs are about 22″ long. Insert your hand up through bottom of the puppet to operate the mouth. Included is one arm rod which can be clipped to either hand for arm movement.
Silly Puppets
All 25″ Silly Puppets characters are full-body puppets. Access for the puppeteer’s hand is through a slot in the puppet’s back, to operate the mouth. Clothing is removable and all puppets come with a metal rod to operate the puppet’s hand for added animation.
